Grand Media Log: Day 7
Wowie it’s a whole week and I’m glad nobody reads these because they have been trash.
A Ship to India
Directed by Ingmar Bergman, Written by Ingmar Bergman and Martin Soderhjelm
Film
Projecting that this will be my least favorite Bergman film. I don’t have much to say except that some few shots excluded this was the closest to bland Bergman I’ve seen yet. Just like Crisis yesterday it hints towards things in his future but not nearly as compellingly as Crisis did. That’s all the Bergman for me till next weekend(ish).
Cowboys and Aliens (DNF)
There’s a lotta people and I don’t care enough to write them all out
Comic
Despite the premise and an decent prologue that textually calls attention to the parrallels of alien invasion with colonialism and indigenous genocide via among other things Manifest Destiny, this was too dry for me. I remember liking the film at the time, but have significant doubts it would be any good on rewatch.
The Killers
Directed by Robert Siodmak, Written by Anthony Veiler, Ernest Hemingway, and John Huston
Film
I don’t have much to say except that this fucking ruled. Big noir fan as people know and this was just great all around. Great script, interesting camera work, a great ensemble of character actors, and is just fun. The narrative structure is also something I’ve never seen done in a crime, let alone noir, context – Citizen Kane/Rashomon-esque, so it gets bonus points for that.
Very happy to have seen this with my dad.
BANG! (DNF)
Written by Matt Kindt, Drawn by Wilfredo Torres
Comic Mini-Series
Metapulp that stretched my tolerance for pulp shit. Might just be a wrong day kinda thing but blah.
That’s it for today, even though you won’t read this.
