MIND MGMT: The Mind Managment Comprehensive Report 3 of 3
Matt Kindt
Comic
Ok I know I said report 2 kind of lost me in some places but all is forgiven. MIND MGMT rules. I love the messy imprecise art and how it complements the narrative elements presented, while allowing for the meta-textual intrustions to fit naturally in. Thematic elements hit me in the right way, focusing on humanity and truth etc, while having the nice spy and corruption stuff on top as a nice bonus. I need to start reading some bad series so it doesn’t seem like I love everything that comes across my plate lol.
Boxers
Gene Luen Yang
Comic
A magical realist or fantasy retelling of the Boxer rebellion from the perspective of one of the revolutionaries, companion piece to Saints which I am reading tomorrow. The corrupting influences in the revolution are very well counterbalanced by the clear necessity of some form resistance to the exploitation of China during the time period. As is always the story, the poor do the fighting and the elites get better off no matter what. I love Gene’s clear style even if some may find it a bit too simplistic, it allows him to focus on conveying what is needed over looking good in isolation. Great stuff.
It’s a Wonderful Life
Directed by Frank Capra, Written by Frances Goodirch, Albert Hackett, and Frank Capra
Film
I have a heart too. This movie is outstanding. Not quite perfect but for this type of movie I can’t expect any better.
