Grand Media Log: Day 3
Shock
Directed by Alfred L. Werker, Written by Eugene Ling, Albert DeMond, and Martin Berkeley
Film
An interesting concept that I swear I’ve seen elsewhere, a woman witnesses a murder and then is confined to a mental institution(“sanitorium” in the dated language of the time) under the care of the murderer, that unfortunately passed without much impact. Outside of a stellar dream sequence in the opening minutes, everything was pretty much filmed in the same ‘most obvious’ way possible with rather dry dialogue. Does star a young Vincent Price though so it has that going for it.
At Winter’s End
Developed by Slandercast Studios, Published by Weston Game Lab
Video Game
It somehow took 3 whole days before old grumbly talked about video games, and I have to lead with a disclaimer. I am close friends with one of the artists who worked on this so keep that in mind for everything I say. With that out of the way this is a sweet little title that while being relatively mechanically barebones throws a few curveballs I wasn’t expecting. Play it so you can stop around in the funny boots.
Nijigahara Holograph(DNF)
Inio Asano
Manga
I had a mixed response to reading Goodnight Punpun, starting out strong but dropping off rather quickly, but this just never grabbed me to begin with. Unforunate, but it happens. It was just too disjointed for me to orient myself so I could be properly disoriented, if that makes a shred of sense.
Naked Lunch(DNF)
William S. Burroughs
Novel
I do not think this is the right time for me to be reading this novel; I need some sense of temporal stability in my head before I can attempt something this all over the place. I will try it again after I have surpassed the first hurlde of reading a Faulkner novel. (Post-)Modern writing might prove a hurdle I can’t overcome like it appears reading philosophy is.
No Escape
Written and Directed by Charles Bennet
Film
An okay-ish low budget crime-ish film. Won’t really surprise you but has some good exchanges.
Yeah sorry for the substantial downgrade in my already meager writting prowess, been feeling kind of off today. I’ll write more when I have more to say about things. Odd combo today of feeling off and not having much to say on these things
