Grand Media Log: Day 15
Hellboy: The Wild Hunt, The Sound and the Fury
Written by Mike Mignola, Drawn by Duncan Fegredo
Comic Mini-Series
Concluding the largest omnibus we have two directly linked mini-series, delving even more into the arthurian canon and paying off several long term connections from omnibus 1. These series were both better on the whole than Darkness Falls from yesterday, and while there still is the almost janky feeling of “hello here’s an elevator pitch for something while the elevator is falling”, there is a more consistently told “proper” narrative here. THat sounds harsh and I particularly enjoyed The Sound and the Fury, but it’s just a kind of frustrating style of exposition – see the wild hunt in canon – when I know Mignola can do so much better. Art is still great but not as compelling to me as Mignolas work, but there was a clear attempt for it to lean a bit more towards it. I’m still reading because Hellboy is fundamentally a fun character even if he’s surrounded by a bit of nonsense from time to time.
Casablanca
Directed by Michael Curtiz, Written by Julius J. and Philip G. Epstein, and Howard Koch
Film
What is there to say about Casablanca. I truly can add nothing. Wonderfully human.
Humphrey Bogart is one of my all time favorite actors, a bold choice, and it was a treat to see him in this iconic role once again.
I do want to add that I watched this with my Mom and for part of it our dog Jojo snuggled between us and it was wonderful.
Read a lot of the Book Thief today(~150 pages), probably finish it tomorrow. The unique perspective is honestly wearing a little thin for me, but even with that said its emminently readable.
Don’t think I’ve mentioned it before but me and my brother do “media exchanges”, requiring the other to read/watch/play something they might not do as readily, and for this one I’m playing Chrono Ark under his supervision. It’s very fun, even if each run takes like an hour for no clear reason. Hein is the best character, and Assault Slash is the best move. Fight me.
HE STILL HASN’T FINISHED FUCKING UZUMAKI YET HE’S HAD THE TAB OPEN FOR OVER A YEAR AND HE ONLY HAS LIKE 5 TABS AT A TIME WHY AKNDFJMLKGsflas
That’s all, even more scattered than normal.
